Devil's Throat

Devil’s Throat is the most imposing waterfall in the system, with a water drop reaching 80 meters in height. This geographical feature is distinguished by its U-shape, measuring 150 meters wide and 700 meters long, concentrating the greatest flow of the entire complex. Its importance lies in constituting the natural border between Argentina and Brazil, being the point where the force of the Iguazú River plunges with the greatest intensity into the lower canyon.

The route to this sector is carried out through metal walkways that cross the islands of the upper delta of the Iguazú River, allowing observation of the transition from the calm channel to the area of greatest turbulence. The structure of the walkways is designed to withstand the river’s periodic floods, integrating into the jungle environment without altering the natural course of the water. Upon reaching the main balcony, the proximity to the waterfall allows experiencing the magnitude of the phenomenon, where the constant mist and the sound of the water define the sensory experience of the place.

This waterfall is the central axis of the Waterfalls area within Iguazú National Park, a protected ecosystem that preserves the biodiversity of the Paraná rainforest. The dynamics of Devil’s Throat are subject to variations in the river’s flow, which generates constant changes in visibility and visual impact of the drop. Its strategic location within the park allows connecting the visit with other circuits that tour the smaller waterfalls, offering a complete perspective of the territorial scale of this water system.
